From January 26th to 28th 2016, the Network of Vietnamese Non-Governmental Organizations on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VNGO-FLEGT) participated in a regional workshop organized by FERN in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR. The workshop objectives include the identification of the forest governance situation in the context of EU policies, and the trade relationship between Lao PDR and Vietnam; the development of a civil society alliance between the two countries as well as general development strategy and coordination mechanisms to improve forest governance. Joining the workshop, besides some civil society organizations pioneering FLEGT in Lao PDR, there were representative organizations from the VNGO-FLEGT network including SRD, CORENARM, SCODE and CEN.

This workshop helped the two parties better understand the process of Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) negotiation in each country, as well as the linkage in the context of timber trade between Lao and Vietnam. With the facilitation of FERN, the workshop also gave directions for activities on FLEGT in the next 3-5 years.
