SRD - Centre for Sustainable Rural Development

 

Who We Are

 


The Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) was established and registered as a member organization of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology (VUSTA) with an operating permit from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) dated March 30, 2006. SRD is a Vietnamese non-profit, non-governmental organization that is dedicated to working with disadvantaged communities, assisting them to improve their quality of life and manage their resources sustainably. Inheriting twenty-eight years of experience from the International Cooperation for Development and Solidarity (CIDSE) in Vietnam, SRD has been continuously progressing and has successfully implemented three Strategic Plans.

SRD currently has two operational offices – the head office in Hanoi and the Hue-based office – and maintains an extensive network of consultants and collaborators, locally and overseas. SRD is a founding member and the Chair of Vietnamese NGOs and Climate Change (VNGO&CC), Vietnamese NGOs on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VNGO-FLEGT), and Vietnamese NGOs on the European Union and Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (VNGO-EVFTA) Networks, and is also a member of the Steering Committee of the UNREDD Program Phase 2, and an active member of several domestic Networks. Additionally, SRD was a Board member of the Asia Pacific Research Network (APRN) and members of overseas regional networks such as PAN AP, Reality of Aid, The Mekong Adaptation Forum, SEA Change, CPDE. Based on the strategic plan for the period of 2018-2022, SRD's projects and programs are currently being implemented in poor and disadvantaged communities, concentrated in the Northern mountainous region and the Central Region, and expanded to the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam in early 2021.

SRD's projects focus on the key areas including Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction; Forest Law Enforcement, Governance, and Trade (FLEGT); Supporting People with Disabilities; Promoting Gender Equality and Child Protection; EU-Vietnam free trade (EVFTA); and Research and advocacy in related fields. Interventions support communities in the areas of poverty reduction, environmental protection, adaptation and mitigation of climate change (CC), and improving governance capacity for people to better manage their development process.

Over the past 15 years, SRD has been implemented 88 projects, including 14 sub-projects with a total of 14.6 million USD across 42 provinces. Through project activities, SRD has made significant contributions to (i) poverty alleviation for poor communities, ethnic groups, disadvantaged groups in society such as women, children and people with disabilities, etc; and (ii) raising community awareness and capacity on environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and policy advocacy.
