In order to build the capacity for the member organizations of the Vietnamese Non-Governmental Organizations on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VNGO-FLEGT) Network, in conducting studies on FLEGT and Governance Monitoring, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) organized a three-day training course “FLEGT and Governance Monitoring linkage in forest land encroachment and illegal logging”, funded by WWF. The course was held in Da Nang city from December 20th to 23rd 2015, with the participation of 23 trainees from the member organizations of the network and other CSOs sharing common concerns.

In the opening speech at the course, Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Hop – SRD Executive Director - emphasized the importance of enhancing the capacity of the network’s members, particularly new members, so that they can engage in efforts to raise the effectiveness of these activities in project areas across the country on forest governance, including three pillars and six principles in the picture below:
Trainers of the course were Mr. Nguyen The Cuong – FLEGT program officer of SRD - and Mr. Tran Nam Thang – Deputy Director of the Consultative and Research Center on Natural Resources Management (CORENARM), concurrently a member of the network steering committee. In three days of training, the trainees were introduced to forest governance and the FLEGT and REDD+ linkage; completing outlines and study tools on the linkage between FLEGT and study on forest governance monitoring in order to address the problem of forest land encroachment and illegal logging; and study and planning processes in Lao Cai Province. The expected outcome of the training was that the trainees would apply the knowledge to the study in the future, particularly in implementing studies on FLEGT/VPA in 2016.
