On the morning of July 7th 2015, SRD was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam Union of Science Technology Associations (VUSTA) for outstanding achievements to the joint program on science and technology between VUSTA and the Vietnam Administration of Forestry (VAF). This award is a very important recognition by the VUSTA of SRD’s effort and its commendable contributions to Vietnamese forestry development over the years. The event was part of the “Evaluating the results of the 2014-2015 implemented plans and developing the 2015-2016 collaborative plans for the VUST and VAF” conference held by the VFA and VUSTA. SRD is one of the two civil society organizations (CSOs) that received the certificate.

Dr. Vu Van Trieu, a member of SRD’s Board of Trustees, shared the VNGO-FLEGT results in the fields of training, in strengthening the Network’s member capacity, of the scoping studies conducted to meet the VPA’s household legal timber requirements, the assessments of the potential impacts of VPA/FLEGT on vulnerable groups, the increased promotion of VPA/FLEGT communications activities, and of the studies conducted on the current state of vulnerable groups in four provinces to establish a baseline for monitoring by the Network. On behalf of SRD, Dr. Vu Van Trieu also expressed his gratitude for the effective and timely support of VUSTA and VAF in approving and implementing projects funded by the EU and other international donors.

Representatives from the Department of Science, Technology &International Cooperation of VNF and VUSTA shared an important report on the results of the joint science and technology program and a summarized draft of the joint program implemented in 2015-2016 between the VUSTA and the VAF at the conference. The VUSTA and the VAF also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperative activities for 2015 and 2016 at the conference.
