On June 27th 2015, as part of the "Support for adults and children with disabilities"-VM041 project in Gio Linh, funded by Caritas Australia through the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD),the People’s Committee of Trung Son commune, Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province, organized a workshop to establish and launch the People With Disabilities (PWD) club.
Representatives of local authorities, of provincial PWD Associations, project staff and management boards of the clubs in 3 the communes of Gio My, Gio Hai and Gio Linh attended the workshop. In launching the Club, Mr. Phung Xuan Quy - Chairman of the Quang Tri provincial PWD association expressed his gratitude for the support when he said; "We are very pleased with the establishment of the Trung Son Commune Club. We should establish more clubs for PWDs, to support and help one another in improving livelihoods and incomes for the general development of the country. Alongside the PWD laws of Vietnam, there is also the International Convention on the Rights of PWDs so we do not have to worry anymore. We just need to remain focused on improving the families’ economic situation and on actively participating in other social movements”.

The PWD club of Trung Son commune was founded with 52 members and has a 3 member management board. The club's mandate is to enhance the role and participation of People With Disabilities in all facets of the commune. At the launching workshop, Mr. Dao Dang Yen, deputy head of the club, said; "With all of your trust, we are committed to developing the club’s status, accomplishing the tasks responsibly and with transparency for the sake of all members and not just for our own sake.”
The Management board
Since 2012, with the active support from the project, there have been 4 clubs founded in the district. Soon, the 5th club in the district will be established in Trung Hai commune. The clubs have played an important role in the formation of organizations of persons with disabilities, working for persons with disabilities and organizations run and managed by PWD. The clubs also serve as a bridge between local authorities, donors and current projects with people with disabilities in order to create a more equal and inclusive society.
