The annual campaign of "Protecting our children from toxic pesticides"

Responding to the World Environment Day (June 5), and lauching the annual campaign of "Protecting our children from toxic pesticides" of the Asia Pacific Pesticide Action Network with the theme titled "Chilren's Rights to a Pesticides-Free World", the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) organized a communication activity on the harmful effects of pesticide on children and how to prevent them at Muoi Noi Primary and Secondary School, Muoi Noi Commune, Thuan Chau District, Son La province.

Due to in the time of the summer holiday, the activity can only involve the participation of representatives of 03 teachers and managers of the school and 30 students under facilitation of SRD staff and officers of the Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (SDCPPP) of Son La province.

The objective of the activity is to raise awareness and knowledge of teachers and students in the school about the dangers of children's exposure to pesticides and how to avoid exposure to pesticides, about children's right to live in a safe, healthy and pesticides-free environment. The activities such as organizing games to learn about the harmful effects of pesticides, methods of prevention, the benefits of protecting the ecological environment for the future of children, putting the posters about the harmful effects of pesticide exposure on children were organized and facilitated.

The students together put up posters warning about the harmful effects of pesticides on the school gate and in the classrooms so that all students in the school can access to information and know how to protect themselves.

At the end of the event, the participated teachers assessed that this is a communication activity with an appropriate approach and has promoted the active participation of the students and brought long-term benefits to the children through increasing knowledge and awareness about the harmful effects of exposure to pesticides.

The activity is within the framework of a cooperation activity with the Asia Pacific Pesticide Action Network (PAN AP) with the support and cooperation of the Sub-Department of Crop Production and Plan Protection of Son La province.
