On June 1st, 2022, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) cooperated with Phong Binh Commune People's Committee, Gio Linh District of Quang Tri Province and the club for People with Disabilities (PwDs) of Phong Binh Commune, Cluster II, in organizing a communication event themed on child protection. There were more than 150 children and their caregivers actively participated in different activities such as theatre-based plays, exchange with the audience and sharing of children and parents.
Mrs. Phan Thi Phuong, member of the club management board emphasized in her introduction: "This is an opportunity for the club in general and parents in particular to exchange, share and praise children having the will and the strength to overcome their difficulties. This activity is also meaningful in supporting and motivating children with disabilities and their families to actively participate in the common activities of the community with their belief that life will change with effort made. The activity also raised awareness among the community about the child rights, including rights of children with disabilities, and shared information aiming to reduce discrimination against children with disabilities."
Mrs. Duong Thi Tan (Tan Lich village) shared emotionally: "After participating in communication activities today, we found it very useful. I have chance to learn more knowledge and understand about child protect and how ensure their basic rights. At the same time, disabilities inclusion would be promoted through which children with disabilities’ participation could be further encouraged. It is even more meaningful when this activity is carried out on the International Children's Day, creating a playground for the children with lots of gifts and other activities of playing, singing and dancing. I’m really delighted when seeing that children with disabilities are changing and be more confident."
Mr. Nguyen Hoang (Binh Minh village) confided: "I found the communication activity is very meaningful. It was a great opportunity for children and parents to learn about child rights and proper child protection. I hope there will be more useful playgrounds like this for children with disabilities in the future."
The communication activity is organized within the framework of the project "Empowering People with Disabilities" funded by Caritas Australia and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through SRD, the period of 2019-2022 in Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province.
