In the framework of the project: “Mitigation and adaption to climate change in the agricultural and forestry sector of the North-Western highlands” funded by Bread for the World from June 5 to June 89 In 2021, the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) in collaboration with Son La Provincial Forest Protection Department, Thuan Chau District People's Committee, Thuan Chau Forest Protection Department and Son La Plantation and Plant Protection Sub-Department organized 04 Forums on Payment for Forest Environmental Services in 04 communes of Muoi Noi, Bon Phang, Nam Lau and Chieng Pha, Thuan Chau district, Son La province. Although the forum was held in the context of unpredictable situation of the covid 19 pandemic, it attracted the participation of 122 representatives of participating households who are representatives of forest protection groups and poor/near poor households, in which: 75 men, 47 women, 35 poor households and 34 near-poor households in the project villages of 4 communes. The participants of the forum included the representatives of the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Son La Province, representatives of the Agriculture Department - Thuan Chau District People's Committee, Thuan Chau District Forest Protection Department, representatives of the People's Committees of 04 communes and journalists from Son La Radio and Television Station. The forum was held in strict compliance with the pandemic prevention and control regulations under Directive 15 of the Government as well as regulations of local authorities.

The forum is organized with the aim of providing a general overview of the policies on Payment for Forest Environmental Services that have been implemented, payment mechanisms and forms as well as payment norms, thereby, strengthening effective participation and responsibility of people in 04 communes in forest management and protection, contributing to reducing forest degradation in the context that the impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly evident in Thuan Chau district and other project communes. In addition, participating in the Forum is also an opportunity for people to share and exchange information on how to pay for forest environmental services in their village as well as the difficulties and obstacles they are facing in the process of payment for forest environment services.
