Pu Duoc and Muong Hinh Villages (Dong Van Commune, Que Phong District, Nghe An Province) have been two of four villages of the commune in resettlement of Hua Na hydroelectricity construction since 2013 and been totally sponsored for Payment for Forest Environmental Services (PFES) by local government since 2014. Since 2016, supported by Vietnam Forest and Delta in Nghe An (VFD Vietnam), The Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) has developed many communication activities to raise public awareness of the policy on Payment for Forest Environmental Services (PFES). With the aim of helping the community, especially forest owners, to well understand PFES, effectively spend PFES's money, and also join in the sustainable forest protection, SRD has coordinated with Nghe An Forest Protection and Development Fund, with People's committee of Que Phong province and Dong Van district to hold two communication events about PFES on August, 19th and 20th, 2016. These events attractedmore than 140 local people who are forest owners (mostly Thai ethnic).
Some major activities included at the events were: greeting performances related to PFES and forest protection and development by local villagers, role-plays with real situation about PFES payment and Q&A section about PFES (held by the representatives from Province and Forest Management Fund). Between each section were several musical performances of local people to warm up the atmosphere. The attendance of village's representatives and Co Phao villagers, Yen Na commune, Tuong Duong district brought a lot of meaningful and useful information to the events.
The representatives of local leaders such as People's committee of Que Phong, People's committee of Dong Van highly appreciated these two- event contribution . After the events, the project's communication activities such as locally broadcastingPFES communication products and holding events about flipping pictures and setting up PANO in public places will keep being supported.
