Health Check of SRD’s Internal Structure

On the 9th and 10th of April SRD conducted an “internal health check” workshop together with invited consultants from the Centre for Community Empowerment (CECEM). The purpose of the workshop was to evaluate the status of SRD’s internal structure, and give us tools to further strengthen all the components of the organisation and thus build a professional and strong VNGO.

The consultants presented a model that can be applied to the internal dynamics of an organisation, where the different components were divided in five sections; as five points of a star. Each section of the star should be balanced to represent an internal equilibrium, which in turn would result in a powerful and professional organisation.

The five points of the star were divided in the following categories: Mission & Working Strategy, Organisational Structure, System of Information Management, Wage System (including system for punishment and rewards), and Resources. The area inside the star represented the culture of the organisation, its values, and the management structure, whereas the outside represented the environment and external factors that might influence its operation and development.

All members of staff participated actively in discussing which sections of SRD they considered strong, and which sections they thought needed more attention in order to achieve a symmetric star i.e. a perfectly balanced internal structure, in which the staff is able to learn, exchange and share ideas, as well as contribute to the development of the organisation.
