SRD collaborated with the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, the Quang Tri Provincial Forestry Department, and the Quang Tri Science, Technology Association for Forest Protection and Biodiversity to hold a meeting sharing the initial results of the implementation of FCIM and CFMS in monitoring forest changes
Within the framework of the meeting, the participants shared the results of the first-year of the project "Dialogue on sustainable forest development in Vietnam", the initial results of the CFMS application in forest management and protection at the two communes in Dakrong districts in Quang Tri province. During the meeting, the participants also discussed and provided feedback regarding the relevance of CFMS in forest monitoring through the FCIM working group. CFMS was useful in information collection which served dialogue activities between local communities and management agencies. CFMS is easy to use at a low cost.

Speaking at the meeting, Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Hop emphasized “Through the project, it is hoped that the dialogue mechanism between people and local authorities in forest monitoring and protection will be strengthened and maintained. The initial shared results will be of interest to all parties and the local authorities will consider encouraging policy to promote community people to participate in monitoring and scaling up CFMS to other communes as well as expanding the involvement of the private sector".

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Pham Van Dien, Deputy Director of the General Department of Forestry, co-chaired the meeting, concluded that the shared information is the basis for the project to continue to deploy, promote practicality, and applicability of the project to maintain results sustainably. If the project could consider expanding the scope of image processing in different weather conditions, it will be more effective. CFMS, if widely used, will be a very effective and feasible tool for community-based forest monitoring.
Mr. Pham Van Dien concluded at the end of the meeting
This activity is held within the scope of the project "Sustainable Forest Development Dialogue" funded by UNDEF through the SRD, which has been implemented in Dakrong district, Quang Tri province from 7/2020 to 6/2022.
