The Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) is a a science and technology organization under Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) that has been implementing many projects. These projects are related to building agroforestry models to combat soil erosion, landslides and land degradation in the north-western highlands. Additionally, SRD also implements afforestation to enrich mangrove forests to prevent landslides and degradation, loss of land due to saltwater intrusion, as well as to combat climate change, and to minimize impact of climate change. Moreover, SRD’s projects aim at supporting upland people to cultivate in a natural way in order to reduce human impact on nature, especially on land. On the occasion of the Drought and Desertification Day on June 17, 2021, launched by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), SRD has actively responded and continued with specific actions, participating in the propaganda of desertification to raise people's awareness about the protection of land resources, prevent desertification. SRD collaborated with the desertification office - General Department of Forestry and Vietnam Television (VTV1) to develop an information program information on the date of desertification and examines the reality of desertification and Vietnam's activities in preventing land degradation, balancing land degradation and combating drought and desertification. Through this program, SRD contributes its efforts to the prevention of land degradation and desertification.
