TRAINING ON CHILD PROTECTION

Child protection is one of the priorities and cross-cutting themes of the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) and Caritas Australia. As a part of the Empowering People with Disabilities project, funded by Caritas Australia and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), a training course was organized to teach child protection and injury prevention, with an additional focus on children with disabilities. With the help of the local People’s Committee, the training took place on November 19th, 2019, in the Gio Phong commune. The training was made up of 25 participants from the parents’ groups and PwD groups, including Ms. H.T.T (Le Mon village), a member of a young parents’ group, who shared: “I have a 14- year-old disabled child and it has been harder and harder to raise him. Attending today's training, I learned many things about what parents should or should not do to their children, such as respecting their rights and listening to them, encouraging children to express their opinions, and identifying potential risks and ways to prevent them.
The project has attracted 89 young parents, and 594 members making up nine PwD clubs within the nine target communes. Every year, the project collaborates with local partners to organize training activities and sharing workshops that focus on the topics of child protection, children's rights, and accident prevention. Additionally, the training activities help parents become more aware of childcare and protection while sharing their individual experiences.
