Mr. Dang Tran Phong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Can Loc district Committee gave a speech at the workshop.

The models were analyzed and shared effectively through numerous consultation papers and statements which illustrated their efficiency and greater social significance in helping people to develop production and livestock and to actively respond to disasters, storms and floods. Some models especially demonstrated significant effect and were invested on a large-scale. These models have brought high economic efficiency. They include: breeding using biological padding, cooperative probiotic production groups, cooperative agriculture, the forestry and environment model in Son Ham (Ha Tinh province), the growing vegetables in drought areas model (Ninh Thuan province), and the community water treatment by biofilm model (Ben Tre province).

The workshop also discussed and made recommendations on the consultation process, the difficulties of local authorities and people in model replication to increase collaboration, and information-sharing between regions.

Mr. Dang Tran Phong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Can Loc district Committee, said that the sharing was extremely meaningful. He expressed that it helped locals, especially the most vulnerable, to access information and learn how to apply the models. However, he said the application of the models needs to be studied, scrutinized, and compared to make them feasible and effective. Also, we need to approach additional sustainable community models.

Before the workshop, the delegates visited 7 models of the project “Taking a value chain approach to improving rural livelihoods in the context of natural disasters and climate change in Ha Tinh province, Vietnam” implemented by SRD in Can Loc from 2012 to 2014.
