A Training Workshop on Policy Brief Writing Skills for VNGO-FLEGT Network

From October 12th to 16^th, 2015, the Network of Vietnamese Non-Governmental Organizations on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VNGO-FLEGT) held a training workshop on policy brief writing skills for the network’s members. The workshop was conducted with technical support from a trainer -- Mr. Nguyen Quang Tan – Country Program Coordinator of the Centre for People and Forests (RECOFTC). The Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD), as the Chair of the Steering Committee of the VNGO-FLEGT network, coordinated and organized the workshop.

The workshop’s participants were representatives of four groups that conducted baseline studies on household capacity to comply with the legality definition (LD) in the provinces of Hoa Binh, Nghe An, Kon Tum and Binh Dinh.

In the first two days of the training, the participants were given an overview of a policy brief and instructed on how to develop its message, layout and justifications. In the last three days, participants practiced doing their first draft under the trainer’s instructions.

After the training, all groups are expected to continue to improve the drafts with the support from Mr. Nguyen Quang Tan. It is expected that in December 2015, SRD will submit the policy brief to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry and other stakeholders.
