On June 15, 2014, Yen Binh People’s Committee, Yen Bai province, and Phu Luong People’s Committee, Thai Nguyen province worked with SRD to co-organize events on improving local community’s knowledge on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT).
Each event attracted above 100 participants including representatives from district, commune sectors, mass-organizations and representatives from forest dependent communities.
At each event, participants studied what illegal logging was, how to prevent illegal logging, and then participated in competition on FLEGT to further improving their knowledge on FLEGT.
Making speech at events, representatives from District People’s Committee stated that “District sectors, mass-organizations, communal people’s committees, based on their mandated tasks, should conduct communication work to each household, individual, enterprises to improve the knowledge on forest law enforcement, governance and trade. District Agriculture - Rural Development and Forest Protection Division should fulfill their task on state management on forest protection and development. District Finance Division should monitor, guide the households, individuals and enterprises for forest trade in line with current legal regulations. Commune People’s Committees should manage the forest area, cooperate with district sectors to fulfill state management on forest protection and development, identify and fine in time breaches on law on forest protection and development; work closely with SRD to collect ideas, opinions from local forest dependent communities as inputs for VPA”.
