The Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) held a mid-autumn festival party for over 150 disabled children and their families, from three SRD project sites, at the meeting room of Gio Linh town People’s Committee on the 21st September 2012. The event aimed to raise spirits and increase morale as a part of the “Supporting People with Disabilities in Gio Linh District, Quang Tri Province” project.
A stellar performance
At the party, disabled children were given the opportunity to play with pupils from Hoa Mai kindergarten and they also demonstrated their talents by singing and story-telling which visibly touched the attendees. The children were admirable in their bravery and their performances were pure and heart-warming. This year’s mid-autumn festival was a great success and full of happiness and joy for the disabled children within SRD’s project sites.

As a part of the celebrations, SRD awarded six scholarships to six disabled children who were among the most disadvantaged pupils. This will encourage the disabled children within the region to overcome the difficulties in their everyday life and achieve good results in class and life. SRD expects that it will award more scholarships with a higher value to continue supporting the academic performance of the disabled children in the near future, especially within disadvantaged families.
In the near future, SRD will implement other activities including, but not limited to, home health check-ups, vocational education, and livelihood support in order to improve the living standards and social integration for disabled children. Furthermore, SRD aims to scale up the results of the project to include more people within the targeted region of the project site.
