Feedback on the final evaluation workshop for the project “Supporting People with Disabilities” in Gio Linh district

After four working days ( from 24^th  to 27^th  March, 2015) conducting final evaluation, on March 30^th, 2015, SRD in collaboration with  the People’s Committee of Gio Linh district organized a “Feedback workshop on conducting the final evaluation of the project “Supporting People with Disabilities” at the town hall of the People’s Committee of Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province. The event aimed at assessing the implementation of the project and its impact on community, its limitations based on objectives established and its relevance, efficiency, impact and sustainability. The workshop also offered proposals and solutions in order to maintain and develop the project’s results; provided experience to support development of next phase of the project. Attendees at the workshop are the representative of local agencies, SRD officers, members of PwD club from three project communes and two project communes Trung  Son and Trung Hai.

At the workshop, following the brief overview of the project and three-year implementation in three communes: Gio Hai, Gio My and Gio Linh district of SRD officers, an independent expert presented results of preliminary evaluation. The project is highly appreciated for its relevance with policies related to PwD and local economy context. The project also made changes to PwD and the community especially in spiritual life, health, livelihoods and job creation.

Participants commented at the workshop that the project is a starting point to help local authorities gain a more specific assessment to figure out the needs suitable for PwD in the district, accelerate poverty reduction of the country, propose continuing the project with the aim of assisting PwD in getting more opportunities to develop their potential, support PwD livelihood development capital, advocacy and promote the establishment PwD clubs at the communal and district level. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa, deputy director of SRD shared a brief introduction on the next phase of the project:  more PwD, CwD (Children with Disabilities) and their parents will participate in the project activities to strengthen capacity and improve their physical health to be involved in community and master their lives.

It is expected that the second phase will attach the importance to maintaining and enhancing PwD groups and clubs, focusing on communication campaigns to raise awareness of PwD and helping them to be involved in the community, continuing develop livelihood methods suitable for PwD and community.

At the end of the workshop, People’s Committee of Gio Linh districts awarded a certificate to SRD for significant contribution to “ Supporting PwD” in Gio Linh district from 2012 to 2015.
