SRD - Centre for Sustainable Rural Development

 

Who We Are

 


The Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) was established and registered as a member organisation of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology (VUSTA) with an operating permit from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) dated March 30, 2006. SRD is a Vietnamese science and technology, as well as non-profit, organization that is dedicated to working with disadvantaged communities, assisting them to improve their quality of life and manage their resources sustainably. Inheriting 28 years of experience from the International Cooperation for Development and Solidarity (CIDSE) in Vietnam, SRD has been continously progressing and has successfully implemented 04 Strategic Plans. 

SRD currently has 02 operational offices - the head office in Hanoi and Hue-based office - and maintains an extensive network of consultants and collaborators, locally and overseas. SRD is a founding member and co-chair of the Climate change working group (CCWG) since 2008, and elected chair of Vietnamese NGOs on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VNGO-FLEGT), the Vietnamese NGOs on the European Union and Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (VNGO-EVFTA) Networks.

SRD's projects focus on the key areas including Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods; Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction; Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT); Supporting People with Disabilities, Promoting Gender Equality and Child Protection; the European Union and Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA); and Research and advocacy in related fields. Interventions support communities in the areas of poverty reduction, environmental protection, adaptation and mitigation of climate change, and improving governance capacity for people to better manage their development process.

Over the past 15 years, SRD has been implemented 89 projects, including 14 sub-projects across 42 provinces. Through project activities, SRD has made significant contributions to (i) poverty alleviation for poor communities, ethnic groups, disadvantaged groups in society such as women, children and people with disabilities, etc; and (ii) raising community awareness and capacity on environmental protection, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and policy advocacy. With the achieved results, SRD is a prestigious and reliable partner of domestic and international agencies and partners.
