Under the framework of the project “Strengthened climate resilience and sustainable income generation for mangrove forest-dependent vulnerable communities (VM077)”, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD), in collaboration with local partners, has been implementing support activities for two production collaborative groups (PGCs) to develop climate-friendly aquaculture models at Tam Giang Protection Forest Management Board in Ca Mau Province.

The activity focused on supporting households to establish sustainable aquaculture models under mangrove forest canopies. These models apply improved technical practices, including the use of probiotics to generate natural feed sources, management of the aquaculture environment with reduced water exchange, integrated multi-species farming in the same area, and the application of EU Organic standards in aquaculture production.

Building on the previous support phases, during this third round of support, households within the PCGs were provided with supplies in accordance with the implementation plan, including the CM1 probiotics, CM2 probiotics, and crab fingerlings. The handover process was led by the Department of Fisheries, in coordination with the Tam Giang Protection Forest Management Board, local authorities, and Ca Mau Seafood Processing and Service Joint Stock Company (CASES).

At the same time, the technical team conducted field monitoring visits to assess the use of supplies, environmental management practices, and cultivation of cultured species. On-site technical guidance and adjustments were provided directly to each household. The activity was implemented following a field-based training approach, which is “learning by doing”, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the models and strengthening climate resilience among local communities.
