“I never imagine that I will work in development sector, let alone working as a communications assistant for a non-governmental organization. The internship at SRD has given me valuable hands-on experience; and more importantly it helped me find my passion for development work. One of my favorite quotes is A journey of thousand miles starts begins with a single step by Laoz Tu, an ancient Chinese philosophy. I believe that working for SRD is that single, important step that I need to take to further my career.”

Lam started at SRD as a communications intern in August 2013, and was promoted to communications assistant in January 2014. She graduated from the University of California’s UCHANU program, and from Hanoi University with a bachelors in Finance and Banking. Her previous work experience included 5 months at Vietnam Financial Review Magazine as a reporter intern and member of Hello Vietnam Project (which aims to provide quality economics news in English).

What sets Lam apart, however, is her extensive volunteer experience. She has volunteered for organizations such as United Nations Volunteers Vietnam, “You Cycle, You Save”, VietClimb, Volunteer for peace Vietnam, and Operation Smile Vietnam. Although her education is in banking, Lam is pursuing a carrier in development through volunteering and her current employment at SRD.
