The 26^th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP26) taken place in Glasgow, the United Kingdom is the largest climate summit since 2015 (COP21) with the representatives from over 200 countries and territories.

According to a warning by the United Nations and scientists, if governments do not take drastic actions to cute emissions immediately, the Earth will experience catastrophic climate disasters. For instance, sea level rise, prolonged and severe heat waves, and more and more species becoming extinct or endangered are the obvious consequences over the past few years.

Therefore, COP26 is expected to make progress for the regulations on carbon emissions trading and phasing out coal. There are four main issues that are of particular interest to observers, negotiators and the public: Climate finance support, Markets for carbon emissions, Coal, and Methane.

At the COP26, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) representing the Climate Change Working Group (CCWG), together with partners and international Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), namely CARE International (CI), Climate Net, Family Health International (FHI 360) and Margaret Pyke Trust, with the Population & Sustainability Network (MPT/PSN) successfully organized a Side Event with the theme “No pot of gold for community adaptation and system resilience". Representative of SRD and CCWG shared about the difficulties that Vietnamese NGOs, particularly small-scale Vietnamese NGOs are facing in the fight against climate change is the limitation of accessing to processes and mechanisms of climate finance. Additionally, SRD also made some recommendations from perspective of CSOs in developing context:

(i)                 Increase climate finance to meet the adaptation finance gaps which focuses on resilience and the support for the most affected communities;

(ii)              Scale up public spending on adaptation by government to support adaptation;

(iii)            Better monitoring system to monitor international and national efforts and financial flows;

(iv)             5% cut that the carbon market should go to the climate finance to support the adaptation;

(v)               Aim for ambitious global climate finance after 2025, this should focus on unavoidable loss and damage.

This Side Event demonstrates the evidence, innovative solutions, and multi-sectoral partnerships to facilitate access to international and domestic climate finance for ambitious resilience and adaptation: integrating gender-just, reproductive health, loss and damage actions in Africa and Asia Pacific.
