On October 24th and 25th, People Committees of Gio An and Gio Viet communes held a "Congress to launch the People with Disabilities Clubs". This is one of the replicated results in phase III of the project "Empowering people with disabilities" - VM064, located in Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province and funded by Caritas Australia and the Department of Foreign Affair and Trade (DFAT) through the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD).

The group of more than 200 hundred participants was made up of people with disabilities (PWDs), their relatives, and the People's Committee officials and representatives of mass organizations in Gio An and Gio Viet communes. Speaking at the conference Ms. Tr. T. L, Deputy Director of the District Project Steering Committee shared, “With the support of SRD and the guidance from the commune authorities, it was possible for the PWDs to set up and organize the launching ceremony of the clubs. This remarkable and practical work has created opportunities for people with disabilities to live under the "common house", to meet, exchange, share, and support each other".
By October 2019, the establishment and operation of PWD clubs in 9 communes of Lio Linh district have been supported by the project. Additionally, 594 PWDs and their relatives have had the opportunity to attend. In the coming time, the VM064 project will carry out consolidation and training activities to build management and administration capacity for the Executive Board and core members of the PWDs Clubs, with the overall goal of sustainable and independent operation of the PWDs.
