Section 3: ILO/EVFTA obligations (underscore that EVFTA refers to ILO core convention),
In this section, Viet Nam’s implementation of eight core ILO conventions, the ILO’s technical convention on occupational health and safety, and ILO’s governance convention on labour inspection are examined, as are subjects relevant to the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda.
To implement EVFTA, Viet Nam committed to ratify and implement the core ILO Conventions, covering: freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; the elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour; the effective abolition of child labour; and the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. Of these, Viet Nam has ratified seven; No. 87 on Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise, has not yet been ratified. Two addition ILO conventions are crucial to labour rights, and are also examined in this section.
