On the afternoon of June 22, 2020, the Center for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD) in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province organized an annual workshop of the project “Empowering people with disabilities” for the period of July 2019 to June 2020. Mr. Duong Duc Hanh, District Commissioner, Vice-Chairman of the People’s Committee, District-level Head of the Project Steering Committee attended and delivered a speech.

The project “Empowering people with disabilities” sponsored by Caritas (Australia) has been carried out in 9 communes of Gio Linh district since July 2018 till July 2023. In 9 project communes, adults and children with disabilities have been supported in rehabilitation, education, capacity development, natural disaster prevention and mitigation, children protection, and livelihood improvement. Over the implementation of the project, nearly 700 PWDs and their relatives joining the clubs and approximately 1326 PWDs, children with disabilities and their relatives in Gio Linh district have access to the project goals such as forming and running groups of PWDs; proactively taking part in social activities, building up confidence, improving health, proactively doing business for a living, etc.

In the upcoming time, the project “Empowering people with disabilities” will further maintain the operation of clubs for PWDs and parent groups of children with disabilities; conduct a survey and collect information on 01 more commune; prepare the 2021 work plan towards promoting internal resources so that PWDs could proactively share and support each other in daily life and other activities in which the project has supported in recent times.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Duong Duc Hanh, District Commissioner, Vice-Chairman of the People’s Committee, District-level Head of Project Steering Committee highly appreciated the results that the Project has brought to the PWDs in recent years. In the upcoming time, he hopefully requests the groups, teams, and clubs for PWDs in 9 project communes to facilitate communication, raise awareness of the project’s goals, and use social networking sites to promote products made by PWDs, contributing to income supplement and life improvement of people with disabilities and their families./.
